Surratt and Thompson, PLLC is getting a change of scenery! As announced on BizJournal earlier this summer, Surratt and Thompson, PLLC has purchased and will now reside at The Historic Col. William Allen Blair House located at 210 S Cherry Street, Winston-Salem, 27101.

Colonel William A. Blair House History

Built in 1901, the Col. William Allen Blair House is one of the oldest homes in Winston Salem, and was marked on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. This Colonial Revival design house has three finished floors, containing more that 8,000 sq feet of office space, and an additional 2,627 sq feet in the basement.

The Blair House was designed by George Barber, and constructed by Fogle Brothers, a legendary contracting firm, which  built many fine homes in both Winston and Salem. The Blair House is one of only four remaining homes built in the 1900’s  on Cherry Street, one of the most prominent neighborhoods in Winston, in its time.

Colonel William A. Blair had The Blair House built for his wife, Mary Eleanor Fries and himself. The couple married in 1895. William and Mary lived in the home until their deaths in 1948 and 1966, respectively. Their son, John Fries Blair, continued to live there until 1983.

The Blair House Today

The Blair House boasts stunning Colonial Revival features, including a high hipped roof, gabled dormers, an elegant foyer, and a Palladian window. While located just moments from Winston-Salem’s downtown business district, The Blair House will always be a step back in time.

Our goal at Surratt and Thompson, PLLC was to preserve and revitalize the original historic charms and features of The Blair House, including but certainly not limited to, the beautiful hardwood floors,  wrap-around porch, original stained glass, and abundance of meticulous woodwork.

With prestigious care, we have brought this fantastic home to life. Our conference rooms and lobby will feature artwork from local galleries, with additional office space for future tenants. The basement will soon become home to Maggie Belle’s, a vintage furniture and unique finds store relocating from Tallahassee, Florida.

We’re excited to have the opportunity to become part of the history of one of Winston-Salem’s most treasured landmarks. You may even find us working from the rocking chairs or picnic table on the expansive front porch, enjoying Winston Salem’s beautiful weather.

The  convenience to Business 40 and the 30 on-site parking spaces make Surratt and Thompson, PLLC more accessible than ever.  We invite you to visit us at our new home as we are excited to present the newly revitalized Col. William Allen Blair House!!
